I just got back from Rock Bottom in Arlington, VA. For beer lovers, I think I heard they brew their own and Wednesdays are supposed to be their beer special during happy hour. On Thursdays, they have a martini special during happy hour. I had the chicken quesadilla and the apetizer sampler, both of which were good. The place was pretty crowded and quite noisy, so get there early. We left around 7:30 or so and there was a line to get in. Definitely the place to be, if you're in the area.
I originally went to The Warehouse in Old Town Alexandria, VA for breakfast the first day I arrived in the DC area back in July 2006. Honestly, I didn't look at the menu very much, so I didn't realize how lucky I was. That breakfast was very good, but nothing new. I had steak and eggs and a mimosa to wash it down. While walking thru Old Town one evening, trying to find something that piqued my interest, I actually had the chance to peruse The Warehouse's menu. I kicked myself for not doing it earlier because it sounded delicious. For those who don't know, I'm from Louisiana, so I'm always up for a good cajun meal. I don't think I'd say The Warehouse is a cajun restaurant, but it definitely has its fair share of cajun dishes -- probably about a third of the menu, if I had to guess. Everything I've had has been delicious! I've been back 4 or 5 times since and have yet to be disappointed. The restaurant may be a little more expensive than most people like, but I don't usually pay attention to prices; especially when the food is good. I definitely suggest you give it a shot if you like cajun food. Hell, I think you should give it a shot, anyway!
I went to Coastal Flats at Tyson's Corner Center in McLean, VA last weekend. I have to say it was pretty good. All I had was a few appetizers, tho, so I can't speak to the entire menu. The lobster bisque and blue crab and rock shrimp fritters were both top-notch. I questioned the latter one, but figured I'd try it out anyway -- I'm glad I did. Another chance I took was on the jambalaya eggroll, which was also good. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but there was no real chinese to it outside of the fact that it was in the shape of an eggroll. It was mildly spicy, which is always good for me, so I'd definitely be willing to get that again. Lastly, we had the Yucatan shrimp cocktail. I could definitely live without this and don't plan on getting it again. Not that it was bad, but not what I wanted. I guess I was thinking it'd be a traditional shrimp cocktail. Instead, it was shrimp in a soup of some sort. All-in-all, the food and service were very good. There's definitely more to the menu than appetizers, tho, so I'd have to go back to give other items a shot.
I was looking for a steak place, but wanted to try something new, and happened onto Union Street Public House in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Let's see... The Carolina Cream of Crab soup and calamari were both pretty good; the calamari came with a very good, somewhat tangy sauce. The ceasar salad was mediocre -- I wanted more ceasar dressing and the crutons seemed slighty stale. The filet mignon was cooked to near perfection -- there were slightly burnt-tasting edges, but all-in-all, it was very good. They have corn off the cob, which is something you don't see everyday. Mashed potatoes were probably about average; good, but nothing special. That about rounds it up, I guess. I'd definitely be willing to go back to see what else they have to offer.

Brio
I first went to Brio in Birmingham, AL, but the experience seemed to be a lot different -- I liked Birmingham a lot more. I want to say the one in Birmingham was a bit more fancy and not so much a chain restaurant. Maybe that was just my impression at the time, tho -- after all, it was on the same lot as a mall. Brio in McLean, VA (Tyson's Corner) was decent. The order seemed to get messed up a little, but they were polite about it and I wasn't in a rush, so that didn't bother me. The crab and artichoke fondu was reallly good; lobster bisque was good, but nothing I'd write home about; and, the pork chop I had was decent, but not really as flavorful as I'd like. I admit I wasn't in the mood for a chain restaurant, so my opinions may be slightly biased. All-in-all it was pretty good, tho. I'd go back if there wasn't anything else I hadn't tried, but don't see rushing back by any means. I'd have to say it was your typical restaurant with a typical selection.
The first time I saw the menu at Uno in Alexandria, VA, I got really excited. As soon as I took my first bite, tho, all that went out the window. I'm not going to say it was bad, but let me say that I wasn't impressed and haven't been back. I'm not opposed to going back, but the food didn't taste as good as I had hoped, so there wasn't anything urging me to return. Maybe one day.
As you can see with the other mini-blogs I have, I like to track things. Maybe I'm just odd, but this one will actually be something I'll go back to. Seeing as tho I'm in a new city, there's a lot for me to see and do. I've been wanting to start this for a while, so I figured I'd finally do it. I plan on rating any restaurants, bars, and nightclubs I go to. I'm always up for something new, so we'll see how far I get.
